Whether you're wondering if OT is right for your child, what a session looks like, or how payment works, we've gathered the answers families ask us most.
You don't need to know exactly what your child needs before reaching out. These questions can help you understand when occupational therapy may be helpful and what happens when you contact us.
Pediatric occupational therapy can support children who are having difficulty participating in everyday activities at home, school, or in the community.
We may help with concerns related to feeding, emotional regulation, sensory processing, attention and regulation, fine motor skills, self-care, play, developmental skills, transitions between activities, and daily routines.
If you're noticing a challenge and aren't sure whether OT can help, we encourage you to reach out. We are happy to talk with you about your concerns and help determine whether an evaluation or consultation may be appropriate.
Absolutely!
A child does not need to have a formal diagnosis to have concerns that may benefit from occupational therapy. Parents are often the first to notice when something isn't quite right.
You may notice that your child is having difficulty eating, tolerating certain textures, participating in routines, getting dressed, playing with others, regulating their emotions, sitting for activities, or completing age-appropriate tasks.
You don't have to wait for a diagnosis before asking questions. If something feels harder than it should, we're happy to talk with you about your concerns and determine whether occupational therapy may be appropriate.
Occupational therapy can address a wide range of skills that help children participate in everyday life.
Some of the concerns we commonly address include:
Every child is different, so treatment is individualized based on your child's strengths, needs, and goals.
At OT the Way, we have a special interest in helping children and families with feeding, sensory processing, regulation, attention, and participation in everyday routines.
Feeding & Mealtime
Sensory Processing & Regulation
Attention & ADHD
We also address fine motor skills, self-care, play, developmental skills, and other foundational areas as part of a child's individualized plan of care.
If you're concerned about your child's development, feeding, sensory processing, attention, or participation in everyday activities, you can reach out to us directly.
We'll discuss your concerns, answer your questions, and help you determine the appropriate next step.
Some insurance plans or other funding sources may have specific referral or authorization requirements, so we recommend checking with your insurance provider if you plan to seek out-of-network reimbursement.
Getting started is simple.
Our goal is to make the process feel simple, supportive, and collaborative from the very beginning.
Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know you and your child.
We will talk with you about your concerns, your child's developmental history, strengths, routines, and areas that may be challenging. Depending on your child's needs, we may observe your child during play, mealtime, movement, or other activities.
We will also discuss your family's priorities and what you would most like to see improve.
Our goal is not simply to identify what your child is having difficulty with. We want to understand why it may be happening and how we can support your child and family in practical, meaningful ways.
Following the evaluation, we will discuss our findings and recommendations with you and determine whether ongoing occupational therapy services may be beneficial. We will write these findings and recommendations in a report and you will receive a copy.
In-home therapy allows us to work with your child in the environment where everyday challenges actually happen.
Depending on your child's goals, a session might include:
We may use toys, foods, household items, and other materials you already have.
Your home becomes part of the therapy process, allowing us to create strategies that are realistic for your family's everyday life. And don't worry about having to clean your house before we arrive—we understand life gets messy!
Telehealth allows us to provide therapy services virtually when an in-person visit isn't possible or isn't the best fit for your family.
Depending on your child's age and goals, a telehealth session may include:
Telehealth can be particularly helpful for parent coaching because we can work together in the environment where your child's everyday routines actually happen.
For younger children, caregiver participation is an important part of the telehealth experience.
Children spend only a small portion of their week in therapy. The majority of their learning and development happens during everyday life—with their families.
Parent coaching helps caregivers understand their child's needs and gives them practical strategies they can use throughout the week.
Rather than simply working with your child, we work with you to help you understand what your child may be communicating through their behavior and how you can support them.
Parent coaching may include strategies for:
Our goal is to help you feel confident carrying therapeutic strategies into your child's everyday life.
Our sessions are individualized to your child and family. Learn what evaluations, in-home visits, virtual sessions, and caregiver involvement can look like.
OT the Way is a private-pay practice. We want families to understand their options before beginning services so there are no surprises.
OT the Way is a private-pay occupational therapy practice and considered out-of-network with most insurance plans.
Our self-pay model allows us to provide individualized care without being limited by insurance requirements. This can give families greater flexibility in treatment planning, scheduling, and the goals we address during therapy.
We focus on what is meaningful and functional for your child and family rather than allowing insurance requirements to determine the entire therapy experience.
Although we are out-of-network with most insurance plans, your insurance company may offer out-of-network benefits for occupational therapy.
We can provide you with a superbill containing the information you may need to submit a claim to your insurance company. Please note that providing a superbill does not guarantee insurance reimbursement.
Because every insurance plan is different, we recommend contacting your insurance provider before beginning services to ask about your out-of-network occupational therapy benefits, reimbursement rates, deductibles, and any other requirements.
Choosing a self-pay model can provide families with greater flexibility and a more individualized therapy experience.
Benefits may include:
Our goal is to provide meaningful therapy that fits into your family's life.

We can provide a superbill for families who would like to seek reimbursement from their insurance company for eligible out-of-network services.
